We bring safe maternity care training into the homes of students across the world who are the next generation of home and birth center providers.

Right now, the United States is one of the wealthiest countries and yet it has some of the worst maternal and neonatal outcomes in the developed world. At the Pacific Birth Institute, we are committed to reducing the impact of the maternal mortality and physician crises on families by training the future community nurse and professional midwives and birth assistants in the safe and evidence-based routine and complication care management of community birth now. It is our mission to reduce mortality in birth in the USA by championing the training and education of 100,000 Professional Birth Assistants (Pro BAs)by 2050 to safely welcome the influx of families choosing to give birth out of the hospital.

Pacific Birth Institute

Meet the Founders – Jessica Johnston CPM and Jennifer Hoadley CNM

Founded by two Alaskan midwives who burn with a passion for human rights and birth justice, the Pacific Birth Institute is a fully online education and training platform where future midwifery students and birth assistants can learn the skills and knowledge they need to safely assist midwives in home and birth centers nationwide. Maternity care deserts and racial disparities in care access are increasing maternal mortality in the USA at an alarming rate. Home birth rose by 80% between 2000-2010 and it continues to grow as doctors retire at faster rates than they are being replaced. Families need midwives and midwives need birth assistants and student midwives. From the anatomy and physiology of pregnancy through placing IVs and learning how to help stop a postpartum hemorrhage, the Professional Birth Assistant Program is the premeire in-depth assistant educational experience to prepare you to serve your community and increase your income and marketability with local community birth professionals. We designed this course for busy birth enthusiasts like you who need the flexibility to complete the program at your own pace. Thank you for showing up and for helping us bring birth safely back into the community in the 21st century. We are so happy you’re here! – Jess & Jenn
